The Creative Europe project StecakLand has been ongoing for more than a year. A lot of work was done in that period. A website was created, selected stećci from Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina were digitized and the project’s visual style was designed. Scenarios for a VR and AR application and a theater play were created. 3D models of selected symbols from stecaks, including people, animals, and abstract elements, were created and the virtual environment of StecakLand was populated with them. When the user enters StecakLand, he/she can visit the villages where the symbols live and hear stories about them from the narrator actors. While walking around the virtual environment, the user needs to collect a certain number of symbols to be able to enter the temple. In the temple, there will be all digitized stećci with their stories. At the end of this educational game, the user will have the opportunity to create his/her own stećak. The file with its geometry will be sent to his/her email address, so he/she will be able to print it in any 3D print studio.
The first version of the AR application was also created, which will enable visitors of selected necropolises to find out the meaning of the symbols from the stećaks through their mobile devices. Through this application, stećci will be able to appear in any other location near the user.
The progress of the StecakLand project can be followed on the website.
In the coming period, we plan to record the narrator actors on the green key and add them to the virtual environment, complete the user interface of both applications, and create intro animations. Kamerni Theater 55 is working on the preparation of the play. The design and preparation of scenography and costumes are currently underway. Promotion of the project and installation of the VR application in partner museums, as well as the premiere of the play, are expected at the beginning of summer 2025.
